THE PROCESS
Hiring someone on TN
The employer does not need to file the visa on employee's behalf. Canadian citizens can take their TN petition to the U.S. Border or pre-flight check to get an I-94 card for entry. Mexican citizens have to apply through the U.S. embassy in Mexico to get the visa stamped on the passport before entry.
HOW IT WORKS
Hire and retain foreign national employees on TN

Initial term
USCIS issues a three year working term when it first issues the H-1B.
+ 3 years
Extension
Unlimited extensions for three years each are allowed.
Green Card
Get legal counsel
Unlike H-1B and L-1, TN visa is not a dual intent visa. Therefore, applying for a green card could result in losing the TN work status.
